What is YDS Exam?

When is the YDS Exam?

YDS exam is usually held twice a year. It has also been done three times a year. The first exam is called the “Spring YDS Exam” (YDS/1), and the second exam is called the “Autumn YDS Exam” (YDS/2). In 2022, YDS/1 will be held on April 10 and YDS/2 will be held on October 23.

E-YDS exams will be held 8 times in 2022. These exams are: 29.01.2022, 19.02.2022, 19.03.2022, 25.06.2022, 23.07.2022, 10.09.2022, 12.11.2022, and 03.12.2022.

YDS Question Types and Exam Example

The types of questions you need to prepare for in the YDS Exam are as follows.

First 16 Questions

The first sixteen questions are about words, prepositions, verbs, conjunctions, adjective clauses, noun clauses, and other grammatical topics. Grammar topics do not have a specific number of questions. But there are mainly tense, conjunction, and preposition questions.

Fill-in-the Blank Questions

There are ten Cloze Test questions. There are five questions for two paragraphs. In this question type, you choose the appropriate option for the part of the paragraph that has spaces.

Sentence Completion Questions

Ten sentence completion questions are asked. In this question type, you complete an incomplete sentence by choosing the most correct option among the options. Therefore, understanding what you read is important for this question type.

Translation Questions

There are six translation questions. Three of them measure knowledge of translation from English to Turkish, and three of them measure knowledge of translation from Turkish to English.

Paragraph Questions

There are five paragraphs in the YDS exam. Four questions are asked in each paragraph. Before answering these questions, be sure to read the paragraph to the end.

Dialogue Completion Questions

There are five dialogue completion questions. In this question type, you need to complete the dialogue between two people during the course of the conversation.

Synonym Questions

There are four synonymous sentence questions. This question type includes one sentence. You are expected to choose the sentence that has the same meaning as this sentence among the options.

Paragraph Completion Questions

There are four paragraph completion questions. In this question type, you complete an unfinished paragraph with the most logical option according to the course of that paragraph.

Unrelated Sentence Questions

There are five unrelated sentence questions. In this question type, you determine which of the sentences in a paragraph is irrelevant for that paragraph.

Who Can Attend YDS Exams?

Those who have completed undergraduate education and are considering postgraduate education may prefer the YDS exam.
